The main project in mechatronics involved discovering and identifying ideas of different issues, which could be solved using mechatronics. The project started with an idea, and was finished after making a functioning prototype.
It was emphasized that the prototype should consist of mechanical solutions, electronics, electronic control, and that one achieved a logical and simple user interface. Evaluation of technical solutions, 2D and 3D drawings, programming, user interface, physical model construction as well as troubleshooting and adjustments has been a major part of the project.
The whole idea behind the project was to make it simpler and more convenient for students (or anyone else) to buy and sell used books through a stationary book machine.
How it works: The seller scans his RFID-card, registers the book using the touch screen and selects which price it should sell for. Book is placed on the bookshelf, The sale gets confirmed, door closes and it rotates to the nearest available spot. If a buyer now want to buy this book, he/she could scan the RFID-card and then see the list of books on the touch screen. After a book is selected, the bookshelf rotates to the correct chamber, the buyer gets information about how payment is done. The door opens and the buyer could now reach the book, and select confirm or cancel.
